What does financial freedom mean to you?
To me, Financial freedom means being able to choose how I spend my time. Most of us are selling our time in exchange for a salary and time is something we can never get back.
What is the piece of money advice you wish you knew 2 years ago?
I wish I had known more about how to save money on vacation while still having a glamorous experience.
What’s the biggest money challenge/issue or learning you currently face?
A money issue I am facing is how to best monetise my hobbies - event planning, community organising, and writing.
What’s your first money memory?
I remember receiving birthday money from my grandparents. Even as a child, I was a careful with money. I wanted to make it last or at least choose something special to buy instead of spending impulsively.
What money habits did your parents practice? How did you feel about those habits?
My mum is a savvy shopper and she inspired me to create Style and Savings (which you can read more about on the https://styleandsavings.wordpress.com/ "About" page). Mum taught me how to be thrifty, to check the clearance rack first and to shop end of season sales. Daddy would say "Decisions, Decisions" when my sister and I pointed at things we wanted in the mall so we would know that we choosing one item would mean not getting another. What drives your financial decision?
Security and stability drive my financial decisions. I was a college student during The Great Recession, which lead me to chose to major in Accounting because it was one of the fields with high prospects for job offers at graduation.
What area of money management do you wish you knew more about?
I would like to learn more about investing in the stock market. I love the idea of passive income!
What is your favourite money tip?
“Do not save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving" - Warren Buffet.
