There are two main types of stocks...common stock and preferred stock.

Common Stock

Common stock is, the most common stock talked about (duh). Common stocks show a representation of ownership in a company and allow a shareholder to benefit from things such as dividends and the right to vote.

Preferred Stock

Preferred stock don’t usually come with the same voting rights as common stocks. And often see shareholders being guaranteed a fixed dividend forever, these shareholders are also preferred before the common shareholders when it comes to distributing the returns.
